North Ireland's first-ever sextuplets
The parents of Ireland's first ever sextuplets have been promised plenty of support when they return home to County Tyrone. Nuala Conway gave birth to four girls and two boys in the space of five minutes. The babies were conceived naturally, without IVF. It was the first recorded birth of sextuplets on the island of Ireland, and the first in the UK since 1993. They will get great support from everyone when they come home. But it is the talk of the parish today. Everyone is over the moon." Previously the largest multiple birth in Northern Ireland was quintuplets, who were also born in County Tyrone, in 2002.

To me it is always delighting to hear that someone gave birth. But this birth isn’t that normal, six babies at ones. I think the parents really need the support that is offered them. It is even hard with one baby. I think the parents won’t get much sleep, but it is worth it. Another positive thing is that they are ready and do not have to think of having other children.

Man who killed pregnant woman in random Grimsby attack 'was cool as a cucumber'
The man suspected of stabbing to death a heavily pregnant woman in broad daylight walked away “as cool as a cucumber” and shrugged his shoulders when confronted by police, witnesses said.
While Claire Wilson, 22, walked to work in the centre of Grimsby she was stabbed in the back in a completely random attack. Claire was seven months pregnant. The police arrested a 53-year-old man who were sitting in traffic just yards away. Detective Superintendent Christine Kelk of Humberside Police said that there was no obvious motive for the attack, and said: “The tragic thing about this is that it was completely random. Miss Wilson’s friend, Dave Stembridge, 18, said: “She just didn’t deserve it. She was one of the greatest people anyone would want to meet.
Miss Wilson’s boyfriend, Mr Kennard, was heard shouting and screaming on the scene shortly after the attack. Today he spent nearly half an hour on the spot where his girlfriend had died with a group of family and friends, and left a “Baby Girl” balloon as a tribute. Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack, but said that the area was likely to have been quiet due to heavy rain at the time of the incident.
Reaction
This is so horrible and horrifying. These things happen more often lately and nobody is safe. I cannot understand people that do such things, what is wrong with them? When you have a sick mind or a problem you should do it to yourself and not to innocent people. The killers often haven’t got a motive to kill someone and that makes me very angry. The thing that makes it even worse is that this man hasn’t killed one person but two. Poor Claire hasn’t got the chance to give birth to her child. I really hope that this killer will get what he deserves!

The bride thought he said 'I do'. But the groom didn't
They had a "splendid and romantic" wedding ceremony in South Africa. Yet, despite Gillian Hudson and Robert Leigh exchanging rings with the words: "I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage", the couple were not legally married, a High Court judge decided yesterday. The reason the story came before the courts was because not long after the romantic ceremony in South Africa, Ms Hudson, 43, a regular churchgoer and Mr Leigh, 49, described as an atheist Jew, split. No marriage had taken place because it had not been asked at the ceremony whether there was any just impediment. There was no reference to "lawful wife" or "lawful husband", and no declaration that they were lawfully married was made. Therefore, Ms Hudson would not be able to claim financial relief from Mr Leigh other than maintenance for their daughter.Earlier in the case Ms Hudson said: "I felt a complete transition in my whole being after I took the vows. I felt very married. I felt like a different woman and I felt like a wife. The whole essence of my being felt different. I was very happy to be with Robert." But Mr Leigh said yesterday after the ruling: "I think the judge's findings reached the honest truth of what happened.
Reflection
This article was so funny to read. The bride thought that she was married legally, but her groom knew it wasn’t an official marriage. They haven’t asked for an official marriage and that makes it strange, because why does she think that this would be enough? I think this was a smart thing to do for the groom. Now she can’t claim financial relief from him. Although, it was a big ceremony with a priest and witnesses but not so smart for the bride to do so.

More students are living at home
A Universities UK report says the proportion of full-time undergraduates living in halls has fallen from 35% to 27% in the same period. The numbers of students that are living at home are increased from 12% to 20% over the past 10 years. Since 1998 students have had to pay tuition fees, which have now risen to £3,000 a year. The study shows a slight rise in the number of students from poorer areas going to university - up 1% on 1998/99. The study - Patterns of Higher Education Institutions in the UK - examines trends in universities over the past 10 years. The study shows a reduction in the number of students leaving university and finding themselves unemployed, but it stresses that this must be seen in the context of the overall improvement in employment within the UK.
Reaction
It so expensive to go to a college or university lately, that is one of the biggest reasons that students stay at home. It is unaffordable for people that live in the poorest areas. Only rich people get the chance to have good education and that is unfair. Good education should be possible for anyone of us.

Britain suffers its first swine flu death
The first death in Britain from swine flu was confirmed last night after a woman died in Scotland. The victim was a woman aged 38 and was in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, who had been admitted to intensive care suffering from the H1N1 virus. The death is the first in the world not in the Americas. A statement issued last night by the Scottish government said: “With regret, we can confirm that one of the patients who had been in hospital, and had been confirmed as suffering from the H1N1 virus, has died today.” The statement added that the patient had had “underlying health conditions”, which means that the swine flu virus might not have been the only contributing factor. The patient was one of ten people who had been in hospital with the virus in Scotland. Last night Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Health Secretary, said: “I’d like to express my condolences to the patient’s family and friends. They have my heartfelt sympathy. “I would like to emphasise that the vast majority of those who have H1N1 are suffering from relatively mild symptoms.
“The risk to the general public remains low and we can all play our part in slowing the spread of the virus by following simple procedures like washing your hands and using tissues when coughing or sneezing.” Professor Hugh Pennington, a bacteriologist at Aberdeen University, said that the death did not necessarily mark a worsening of the outbreak in Britain. “It does not point to the virus getting nastier. All the evidence to date suggests the virus is not changing at all,” he said. “This is a flu virus, it is in no way different from an ordinary winter flu virus, so if there are enough cases some people will have to be admitted to hospital and some will die.”
Reaction
I already thought it was scary but now it is coming closer to home. The first person that died in Europe, because of the swine flu. I do know that not all people that are infected with this flu will die but then again, it can happen to anyone of us. I would really want to know if it was the swine flu that caused the death or the underlying health problems. I really hope that we will overcome this swine flu very soon. Because it is scary to hear how quickly it can spread over the world. I do think that the government could do more to prevent this.

A face in the crowd, a cry from the heart
'Maryam', a 24-year-old Tehran student, mourns for her country
‘’I cannot put my feeling into words’’, Maryam said. She said that she can only express her sorrow for her country. The result is unbelievable. It is a blatant lie. And now we have this kid, this stupid child who claims that his re-election is a victory of the people. How can we withstand this man ruling us for four more years? According to Maryam Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, their supreme leader supported his son in stealing this election. Maryam didn't want to vote on Thursday but this election was totally different from previous votes for her. Tehran was like a different place, these last few weeks. Maryam knows people, entire families, who had not participated in any elections since the revolution but this time their mood and outlook was transformed. Maryam added: When I have wiped my tears away, I have something to be happy and proud of. Mousavi may have lost this fraudulent election, but people will not forget him, and what is more they will draw a line between him and what he represents and this government. Nobody can ever forget this event. No-one will give up. The people are crushed into silence, but they won't be silent forever. They have new ways to connect to one another. The regime can block Facebook today but they can't block it forever. Something has changed in this country, people have been cheated but they have seized more freedom. Maryam said that now they are like caged lions, so taking anything from them will be harder in the future.
Reflection
When it comes to an election everyone is free to choose who you want to become your leader. When you do not have this kind of freedom, for what purpose are there elections? It makes me really sad to see things like these happen. I totally agree with Maryam, I do think that Ahmadinejad is a cheat and a fraud. He doesn’t care about the people that are the victims. He only cares about himself and get the power. Iran won’t see any changes when Ahmadinejad is leading the country. Iran will have another revolution. I really hope that other countries can make a difference to help the people in Iran.

French plane lost in ocean storm
An Air France plane carrying 228 people from Brazil to France has vanished over the Atlantic after flying into turbulence, airline officials say. The Airbus sent an automatic message at 0214 GMT, four hours after leaving Rio de Janeiro, reporting a short circuit. It may have been damaged by lightning. It was well over the ocean when it was lost. This makes Brazilian and French search planes' task more difficult. France's president said the chances of finding survivors were "very small". "It is a catastrophe the likes of which Air France has never seen," Nicolas Sarkozy said after meeting relatives and friends of passengers at a crisis centre at Charles de Gaulle airport. Earlier, Air France chief executive Pierre-Henri Gourgeon told reporters: "We are without a doubt faced with an air disaster." He added: "The entire company is thinking of the families and shares their pain." It had 216 passengers and 12 crew on board, including three pilots. The passengers included one infant, seven children, 82 women and 126 men.
France’s president told families and friends, "The prospects of finding survivors are very small."
Finding the plane would be "very difficult" because the search zone was "immense", he added.
This is the first major incident in Brazilian air space since a Tam flight crashed in Sao Paulo in July 2007 killing 199 people.
Reaction
This is so sad, it is a tragedy. It is so scary no matter what the circumstances or causes were condolences to the families of the victims. I hope they can find and recover the black box that will show the cause that crashed the aircraft. The families and friends of the victims deserve to know the truth why they lost their loved ones. How scary is it when you think to be at home in a few hours, and then you are somewhere where nobody can find you. This is why I hate planes, when it crashes you already now that the chance of surviving is very small.
